“Well, we are all safely back home from Sable now and the QSL cards are pouring in from all over. Many thanks to all those who patiently waited to work us. Special thanks to those who have enclosed a few extra green stamps with their cards to help with the very high costs associated with getting to CY0. The final QSO total for 6 meters is 3,941 QSOs in 60 DXCC entities, and the HF totals for 20 & 40 meters are over 3,700 QSOs in 80 DXCC entities. On 6 meters, we worked the following continents, all only via sporadic-E propagation – North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. We will be adding more pictures to the “Gallery” over the next while, so please come and visit the site frequently. Johan, ON4IQ has kindly created some very interesting charts for us, showing the different 6m grids worked from Sable and these will also be added to the “Gallery” shortly. Finally, thanks to all those who posted CY0X videos to www.youtube.com <http://www.youtube.com/> – we really enjoyed experiencing CY0X from the DX end. 73, Dick K5AND, Pete VE3IKV, and Chris W3CMP” |

CY0X is the first 6-meter focused DXpedition to CY0 Sable Island since the June 1996 CY0AA operation by Mike, VE9AA and company. The DXpedition dates (June 25th through July 7th 2008) were chosen to maximize the possibility of transatlantic multihop sporadic-E propagation to Europe, Africa, and the Mideast. We will be on six meters 24 hours a day from the main station in grid FN93 an 8 element custom M2 yagi (40 foot boom courtesy of Robby, VY2SS) and Dick’s 800 Watt linear amplifier. Operation will be on both CW and SSB and also look for us on meteor scatter. We will be using either Dick’s K3 or Pete’s Yaesu FT-650 for the main 6 meter transceiver plus a 0.3db NF pHEMT low noise 6m preamp. We will be transmitting on 50.108 MHz. Please do NOT send your grid square as it consumes valuable time during an opening. We will also try and activate rare grid GN03 if there is a solid opening, using a portable station with a 5 element M2 6M5X yagi and the call CY0RA. We plan on also being on HF on 20 meters and 40 meters, CW and SSB – but the HF operation will always take lower priority over the 6 meter operation. HF antennas will be elevated monoband ground-plane verticals for each band, the IOTA island designator is NA-063 The special call sign CY0X commemorates the 225th anniversary of the 1783 Loyalist landing in Nova Scotia http://www.loyalistlanding2008.org Many thanks to Adrian EA5/G0KOM for creating the cy0x.com website and for sponsoring the web hosting |
